Bicycle Etiquette

What are the rules of the road for Raptors on two wheels?

  • When passing on the left, please let the rider on the right know by saying “On Your Left” and give the cyclist you’re overtaking plenty of room. You should be able to pass at least an arm’s reach away.
  • Please do not pass on the right.  If you come up next to a rider on the right, please let him or her know by saying, “On Your Right.”
  • Please be sensitive to the needs of pedestrians, who need to access sidewalks and entrances to businesses.
  • When riding in large groups, please be sensitive to the needs of drivers who are waiting to pass by separating into smaller groups so the driver does not need to pass the entire group at once.
  • Ride single-file when drivers are waiting to pass.
  • Make your intentions clear to everyone on the road. In particular, use hand signals to indicate turns, obstacles in front, and debris/potholes (and the like) on the road.
