The VeloRaptors Annual Marin Headlands ride on was on Sunday – January 12. 30+ Raptors cycled from the Embarcadero to the top of the Headlands. One of the highlights this year was the ability to cycle back to the East Bay via the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge, and a lots of riders took this option.

The new bike path on the Richmond-San Raphael (RSR) bridge is scheduled to open soon (Nov 16). VeloRaptor’s inaugural ride on this new bike path is set for Nov 20.
The rides will start at Warehouse416, located at 416-26th St. Doors open at noon, wheels roll at 12:30, and route maps will be available. You will be riding on City streets, and at a slow pace, easy speed, good for less hearty riders. Participants are encouraged to bring friends and family. Non-bike clothing is suggested, along with a helmet. (Be a hipster for a day). Good idea to bring a bike lock.
Let Ron know if you have any questions after reading the details of the Art Route at visit Oakland.org. Then let him know that you will be riding by sending a ‘YES’ for the ride on your preferred date, along with your name to Ron@warehouse416.com.
Alternatively, you can just do the tour on your own, Maps of galleries are available at all participating galleries. The list of galleries is on the Visit Oakland website.
Thank you, and hope to see you on one of the tours,
-RON

The 15th annual BORP Revolution ride was held Oct 23 at Trentadue Winery near Geyeserville. This year the VeloRaptor team had 8 riders, most of whom did the metric century. The weather was clear and not too hot, and the Sonoma County wine country was beautiful, as always.
Together the VeloRaptors raised nearly $13,000 for the cause. Thanks to those who contributed via the Bike Wash as well as the Revolution ride itself.
Hope to see you all at the BORP bike wash fund raiser next Saturday at Randy’s home in Moraga. Randy, Kevin, Dennis and Gregg will be cleaning up your bikes, while 2 Steves are in the back, manning the grills. Bring your bike, a dish to share, an appetite and a smile.
Dinner $25
Donation to BORP – Please give generously to support our team.
See you there,
-Steve B.
Lots of VeloRaptors turned out for our annual meeting on Sunday – June 5
Here are the highlights:
David Kellert and Steve Goldenberg were elected to the board to fill spots left by Susan Stewart and Randy Mellins, whose terms had ended. Randy announced that he will again host a summer bike wash fundraiser for BORP, and Fred has again offered to host the Christmas Party! Membership is staying constant at about 100 members, with may miles being ridden. Masses of coffee and pastries continue to be consumed.
In addition, last week the Wednesday riders made a brief stop to check out the coffee at the new cafe at Redwood Canyon Golf Course on Redwood Road near Castro Valley. Let it be known that Peets’ is not losing any customers, meaning we still have to climb the hill from hell to get some coffee.
Once again, the VeloRaptors kicked-off our support of the BORP Revolution ride with our annual BikeWash and Barbeque in June. The event was held at Randy’s and Christina’s home and put on by your team chefs of Randy, Steve Blair, and Steve Goldenberg. The bike wash team included Dennis Cathey, Kevin McTighe, Greg Thomas, and Randy. Once again, the side dishes and desserts everyone brought made the event a smorgasbord enjoyed by all.
On Saturday September 26th, the VeloRaptors were well represented in the BORP (Bay Area Outreach Recreation Program) 2015 Revolution ride. Members of our team participated in the 65, 45, and 25 mile rides. Our riders included: Steve Goldenberg, Steve Blair, Randy Mellin, Fred Morse, Barbara and Larry DiCostanzo Charlie Klinedinst, Tom Willging, Kathy Tate, and three VeloRaptors BORP Adaptive cyclists: Jorge Alvarado, Beth Smith, and Kate Woodford.
The ride explores the scenic Sonoma wine country around Healdsburg.
Through your generosity, and the family/friends of our riders, we raised a record $14,874. Overall, the BORP Revolution ride raised just over $200,000 this year, which makes this annual Revolution ride the largest BORP fund raising activity by far. These funds are greatly needed for BORP to continue providing their many worthwhile programs for disabled children and adults. To read a short summary of the BORP ride and see a few pictures, please visit www.borp.org.
I am also sharing the link of the video I produced with my friend Ryan last year showcasing the BORP 2014 Ride.

So, from your BORP 2015 VeloRaptors team, a hearty thanks for your support and for your contributions to BORP. Everyone’s SUPPORT is important!
